Comment: In the future, with nanotechnology, we may be able to take this even further to create the actual active component of the drugs: creation of the specific molecules. This could be great for affordable medicines, but it's not clear how the role drug development companies might change. Perhaps they would have a shared role with the public in drug discovery / invention, and testing.
